William Spickett has no grave, his body was never recovered. It is suggested William was killed by shell fire with nine other men at his side and to recover any of the bodies from no mans land must have been an impossible task, it must have been a deadly job recovering the wounded.
Thousands of other soldiers were never recovered and also have no graves, so all over the world memorials have been erected to those who were killed in action in the first world war. William has his name carved in stone at the memorial in Arras.
