The search for William

The search for William began after the screening of a B.B.C. documentary in late November 1998. The documentary gave details of an Internet Web Site where families could trace relatives who fell in the Great War and find out where they were buried or where a monument to that relative might stand. The Web Site which was set up by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission gave a lot of information about the relatives including how and where they died. The family thought it would be a good idea to see if we could find out more about William and how his short life came to a sudden end, after all some of us had never even heard of him before.

The search began with the Internet Web Site which did not give much information as the name search had broken down because it had been flooded with thousands of enquiries from people looking for information about members of their families. I have since been back to the web site and this time managed to do a search and find a lot of information about him. Although William has been dead all these years he was the first member of the family to be mentioned on the internet!
